During the upcoming 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, we are earnestly calling for a first round of pledges to support the proposed Central Africa Museum of Enslaved Africans (TCAMOEA) in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
The Central Africa Museum of Enslaved Africans is far more than a potential candidate for a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it is an essential institution for a comprehensive understanding of the transatlantic slave trade's full reach, its varied human experiences, and the profound resilience against unimaginable odds.
Its location is particularly significant, as West-Central Africa was demonstrably the largest supplier of enslaved Africans to the New World, offering an indispensable perspective often overlooked.
Victor Mooney's personal commitment to this narrative is underscored by his own historic feat, supported by H.E. Mr. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Head of State for the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
Following one of the transatlantic slave trade routes (Middle Passage), he rowed from the coast of West Africa (Canary Islands) to New York’s Brooklyn Bridge.
H.E. Mr. Anatolio Ndong Mba, Permanent Representative for the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to the United Nations sent a cable to the Head of State concerning his thinking, which coincided with the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition last month.
H.E. Mr. Téte António, former Permanent Representative to the African Union to United Nations gave Victor a warm welcome after crossing the Atlantic.
"We firmly believe such a vital venture can be effectively financed through a strategic blend of private sector investment, support from friendly countries, aligning philanthropic goals with this compelling cultural narrative and partnerships with the Economic Community of Central African States and the Central African Economic and Monetary Community" - Mr. Don Victor Mooney
